About Us:

About The Tone Holding Group
We are a group of several manufacturing and service companies that was launched in Dubai in 2008 and in 2021 moved its headquarters to Estonia for easier access to European markets. Holding Tone is an official member of the British Chamber of Commerce and has official offices in four countries: Estonia / Turkey / Dubai and the United Kingdom.
Holding subsidiaries include:
– Tone Trading Company
– Nowin ravansazan Company
– Petrolipar Company

The Tone holding group activity is divided into three main parts:
– Production of aromatic products
– Oil Bunkering services and oil terminals
-Commercial services including export and import

It should be noted that the services of Ton Holding Group oil terminal in the Chabahar Free Zone are on the strategic shore of the Oman Sea, which will be opened by July 2022 with a capacity of 24,000 cubic meters.

Until the 1960s, phthalic anhydride was obtained almost exclusively from coal tar by air oxidation of naphthalene. Today the basis for most of the world production (2000: 4.0 million tons) - in the early 1980s it was 85% - is the oxidation of o-xylene. In the laboratory, this substance can be produced by heating phthalic acid C8H6O4. This splits off water: C8H6O4 → C8H4O3 + H2O. Under suitable conditions - preferably reduced pressure - the substance distills or sublimes off and condenses in a receiver without the water.

Properties of phthalic anhydride

Phthalic anhydride is a solid that forms colorless, aromatic-smelling, needle-shaped crystals. These easily sublimate. The compound melts at 131 °C and changes to the gaseous state at 295 °C.

This substance is sparingly soluble in cold water, ethanol, and diethyl ether, but readily soluble in esters, ketones, halogenated hydrocarbons, and benzene.

Technical or stored substances in containers that are not completely sealed can contain a considerable proportion of phthalic acid since the anhydride is slowly converted to acid with the humidity in the air. Then it has to be distilled or sublimated, preferably at reduced pressure.

Application of phthalic anhydride

In terms of quantity, the largest part of phthalic anhydride is used as a starting material for the production of plasticizers. As a raw material for synthetic resins, it is used as a component of surface coatings for wood. In addition, it is a raw material in the production of dyes or color pigments based on phthalocyanines.

Another technically important conversion of this substance is to anthraquinone; firstly, a Friedel-Crafts acylation of benzene takes place.

The reaction with alcohols gives phthalic acid esters, which are mostly used as plasticizers for plastics (particularly PVC). Under suitable conditions, the reaction with alcohol produces an acidic ester of phthalic acid. These esters often crystallize well so they can be used to detect alcohols in qualitative analysis. Because they have a carboxylic acid group, they can be titrated with strong bases.

Safety instructions

Phthalic anhydride is considered to be allergenic. It has an irritating effect on the eyes, skin, and mucous membranes.
